Our Boys Varsity Basketball team has been waiting all week to find out if they would earn a state tournament berth (in the 24 team field that begins Saturday). In their first full season of varsity basketball (AIA Division IV, Section I), the boys compiled a 13-15 overall record and a 9-9 Section record. The state tournament power point rankings came out this evening (finalized and posted at 10:00pm). Our boys finished with a power point ranking of #25, just one spot away from qualifying for the state tournament (Seligman finished in #24 place just .23 points ahead of us - Click Here to see the rankings). While this is disheartening to our boys (especially our seniors - Joey Vinck, Ishan Ranjan, Anthony Casillas, and Ricky Su), we are extremely proud of their accomplishments in year one of varsity competition. They finished 25th out of 62 teams in Division IV. All 9 losses in their section came from state tournament bound teams. Our boys rose to the challenge of playing 25 of their 28 games "on the road". They have set the bar high and our younger players in the program will work extremely hard and strive to build upon this solid foundation.
We look forward to opening up the New Ventura campus in 2013 with our first true "home game" in our new athletic gymnasium. Next year's season has great potential (w/ 6 varsity players returning) if they will commit to offseason workouts and dedicate themselves to individual and team improvements during summer basketball in the month of June.
